| Search the ARRL QST archives for an antenna called the "Minooka Special"
| (mid to late 70s maybe).  It used a loading coil a few feet from the top,
| along with a much smaller coil at the base, which was tapped for match to
| the coax.  I used one of those antennas with much success, using only
about
| (20) 30 foot radials buried in the sod.  Rather narrow bandwidth, but
| effective. I built mine out of old 2" aluminum boom material, some 15
meter
| beam elements and a section of a TV antenna.  It was 30 odd feet,
| freestanding.

| If you have trees, one of the Doug DeMaw antenna books contains an
| interesting design that uses a similar loading coil near the top, along
with
| a folded wire top hat.  Total height of mine is around 70 feet, hanging
from
| a pine tree.
