Search the ARRL QST archives for an antenna called the "Minooka Special"
(mid to late 70s maybe). It used a loading coil a few feet from the top,
along with a much smaller coil at the base, which was tapped for match to
the coax. I used one of those antennas with much success, using only about
(20) 30 foot radials buried in the sod. Rather narrow bandwidth, but
effective. I built mine out of old 2" aluminum boom material, some 15 meter
beam elements and a section of a TV antenna. It was 30 odd feet,
freestanding.
If you have trees, one of the Doug DeMaw antenna books contains an
interesting design that uses a similar loading coil near the top, along with
a folded wire top hat. Total height of mine is around 70 feet, hanging from
a pine tree.
