Gang,
This happened to me once before about a year ago. The problem went away
and did not come back until today. arrrrrrrrrrgh!
See below.
------------
My Yaesu FT-1000MP MKv Field started tuning down in frequency all by
itself, and despite power cycling and full microprocessor resets, I
could not make it stop. Nearly 4 hours of experimenting,
troubleshooting, profuse sweating, thinking, more experimenting I got it
to stop. I believe that the switch that engages the narrow CW filter,
or the relay that it controls was stuck in the "held down" position,
even though the switch looked to be in the proper position.
I arrived at this by eliminating everything I could think of. I finally
decided that the only thing left was some front panel switch in the
stuck on position that was causing the microprocessor to do wacky
things. Actuating every switch repeatedly got it to stop temporarily.
Extensive experimentation narrowed it down to one switch, the CW filter
switch. I operate about 95% CW so this switch rarely gets turned off.
After I finally got it to stop tuning and stay stopped, I experienced an
odd situation where the radio acted as if squelch was turned on in CW
mode. I could hear a signal when someone was sending, but the second
they stopped all sound in the headphones stopped. Complete silence as
if the audio was squelched. Additional exercising of this switch seems
to have fixed this.....for about an hour and a half.
---------1.5 hours later-------------
The frequency going down uncontrollably returned. I strongly suspect I
was wrong the first time.
Has anyone had this problem, and if so what was the cause / fix.
If not does anyone have any ideas where to start?
If not, I live in Iowa. Who is a good person who works on these?
Thanks Steve NG0G
