Tom,

I've used an RS232 to USB converter w/my 1000MP and a variety of computers
and haven't had any trouble at all (and they're cheap).  It should work just
fine for you.

Buy a PCI slot RS-232 board.    None of the serial to USB convertors work
very well.  You can buy this board on eBay
