[1000mp] CW keyer - disable on one jack?

This Field Day once again raised a "feature" of the MP.  The front 
panel switch for keyer on or off controls both the front panel and rear 
panel jacks (assume all models - this is Mark V 200 wt).  For program 
sent cw keying, the MP internal keyer has to be off, but to use the key 
requires remembering to hit the front panel switch to enable the 
internal keyer (like a contact with the club down the road to say hi, 
etc beyond the contest style exchanges).  Most other rigs have two 
jacks: a straight key (for program output) and another for the interal 
keyer that make this no problem.  Is there something I'm missing or 
does anybody have an easy modification to have one jack as straight key 
(or keyer) only and the other switchable via the front panel button?
