Thanks for making this crystal clear now Billy. So I was indeed totally 
wrong in my assumptions. :)

It seems that one of the main differences between them is the famous 
"class A" SSB mode which does not exist on the "plain" MP, but as it is 
said to have been problematic on some early Mark V versions (blown up 
PAs), I didn't dare testing it on my Mark V Field, at least until now.

The Mark V series also seem to have enhancements regarding filtering and 
QRM fighting, with the Variable RF Front-end filter, and IDBT features 
(you'll find more info on those in the manual, which you'll easily find 
on VA3CR's site: http://www.va3cr.net/ )

On the other hand, one thing I personally find very interesting on the 
1000MP is the IF filters selection process, which I find easier to 
understand than on the Field.

VA3CR's site is really a gold mine for FT-1000MP[anything] owners. 
You'll also find comparisons between rigs in terms of performance (IM3 
and other figures).
