Dave,
You are correct, the earlier CPU versions did not have the USB option.
There maybe a work around for you and it's on the VA3CR web site, it's
called the MARS USB mod for packet operation. See this link
> http://www.va3cr.net/mods/Material/MARSUSBDigitalMode.pdf
I did try it but I like the center passband of the normal digital
operations down in frequency, just my taste.
I have the old software set similar to yours. I use a MicroHam USB
microkeyer where the audio out put can be selected to go to the mic
input or to the packet input. I send it to the microphone input with
the standard mic connected to the Keyer. When I am operating in the VOX
mode the keyer automatically sees that I am in the SSB part of the ham
bands and uses the mic input and routes that signal to the FT1000mp mic
input. When I am down in the CW/Digital portions of the band the keyer
routes the soundcard signal to the mic input. This works the same as
routing the soundcard input to the packet aux jack.
I think that the other interfaces on the market use a similar scheme
thus solving the problem you are having. Even if I am not using the mic
connection to the MK Keyer when I switch to SSB the only thing I do is
unscrew the MK Keyer cable to the mic input and screw the mic direct.
Not the best we hoped for but works OK.
Try the MARS USB settings first and see if that doesn't work for you and
or investigate the different soundcard interfaces on the market on how
they route both the soundcard output and a connected microphone to the
mic input on the FT1000mp.
I tried to get an updated chip for the FT1000mp and was told that the
CPU updates are no longer available. I think that there EEPROM and
can't understand why someone couldn't burn a copy of one that is updated
but so far no luck finding someone to help including some independent
service companies.
Keep us posted on the best solution that works for you.
