Dear Dave G4GED:

If your "old" computer has a USB port and is not too slow, an ideal
solution is to purchase a SignaLink USB and interface cable from DX
Engineering:

The box works like a charm with my FT-1000MP Mk V. The box makes it simple
to work other modes as well.

If it is too difficult to order from UK, you may find someone on your side
of the pond who sells the box.
