[1000mp] Mark V turn-on, power-up issue

Mike,

Usually there are absolutely no functions. Completely dead, except
there was perhaps one instance I recall, some months ago, where
during the sending of about 60 watts CW the RF output went to zero or
very low (I could see the Alpha not driving), but all the panel was
still lit and the sidetone was still audible-- receiver worked. In
just that one case, a sharp (gentle ;-) ) rap of my hand on the top
cabinet did bring it back to normal for a while. I've never been
able to duplicate that again.

Re the FP-29-- If the radio is OFF, and in its bad condition, turning
on the FP-29 switch lights the red LED but DOES NOT start the FP-29
fan. Normally in a quiet room you can hear faintly a relay closing
in the FP-29 at turn-on, but when the radio is 'bad' I don't think I
hear the relay close in the FP-29, and the fan definitely doesn't
start. So there is feedback there from the radio I think which is
telling the controller in the FP-29 to not power up fully. This
behaves the same with either of my two FP-29s, and Yaesu DC cables.

When the radio is working, either of the FP-29s or cables runs it fine.

When it is 'bad'... if everything is switched OFF, and I press the
FP-29 switch, and I see the LED but don't hear the relay, or hear the
fan, then I know that pressing the power switch on the Mark V is not
going to do anything. At that point, I'm not sure I'm going to see
anything on the Mk V rear DC connector.

I have not tried to measure voltages yet, but can do that after I
reassemble some of the modules to a point where it is safe to attempt power-up.

Thanks for the ideas!
