I am repairing a dsp unit on a 1000MP and cannot understand how the dsp gets it's analog input. The article in the FT-1000MP technical supplement reads as follows:

It is under the heading Digital Signal Processor Circuit (Receiving Systems)

'When the DSP demodulation function is used, balanced mixer IC Q3007 of the AFUnit operates as a double balanced mixer (frequency Mixer). In this case, the 3rd IF signal (455Khz) from the IF Unit is mixed with a carrier (local) signal of the frequency
(f lsb=466.74 KHz, f usb=463.74 kHz) generated by the DDS-CAR unit to produce a differential frequency of 10.24 kHz'.

Now I do not understand how they get the 10.24 kHz. They say that it is a suppressed carrier. If that is the case I should be able to see the audio sidebands around the suppressed carrier of 10.24 kHz but I do not see them on the spectrum analyzer.

Is there some magic here? In my particular 1000MP when the edsp is turned on and the contour control is turned the audio level out of the speaker is low as compared to when the edsp is turned off.

Any thoughts.
