you have all kinds of options. You say you don't want to buy an amp
but then you mention getting a SB220 which would be way overkill for
you. If QRO is what you don't like about owning an amp, then you can
get an amp and not drive it to full output. There are a couple of
solid state amps out there that are supposed to be pretty good that are
5 or 6 hundred watt amps such as the SGC Smartcube and the Ameritron
ALS 600(?). They are almost like having an exciter with a 600 w. PA.
You could get one of those and drive it to 300 w. If you did that you
could keep the old rig and if it ever died you could get a 100 w. rig
and save a lot of money over the cost of the 200 w. version and get
some of your outlay for the amp back. Then you'd have in effect, a
100 to 600 w. rig.
