[1000mp] CAT Control Chip

For the 2nd time in about 10 years, lightning has taken-out the CAT control
chip in my MP.

Last time, I had a local service tech repair it, but I've lost track of the
guy.  How difficult is it
to obtain and replace that chip?

Outside of the obvious (disconnecting all cables and antennas), is there a
way to protect this chip
or replace it with something more robust?
