[1000mp] FTV-1000 and ALC

I have a new FTV-1000 I am using with a MkV and have a question about
setting the power output and ALC indications.  On HF, the output power is
adjustable and proportional to the setting of the power knob over the range
of its rotation.  On 6m however, there is a very narrow range around the
9:00 o'clock position of the power knob where the output power goes from a
low level to full power.  Try to set anything less than full power is very
difficult and the power level tends to vary.  The ALC light on the FTV never
illuminates at any power setting.  Is this typical of the behavior of the
MkV-FTV combination or do I have an issue?
