I fully agree with this opinion. Although one might reply that responding to
the whole list instead to only the author is as simple to realize as to
respond only to the author instead to the whole list. That's right, but if I
have contributed to a list my MAIN aspect is the list. If I think, my
response might be useful for at least part of the list members, why should I
send it to the author personally? If my response has nothing to do with the
actual topic, why should I send it at all? So only a very small amount of my
responds (< 5%) are sent directly to the author.
This strategy saves me a lot of time and part of this time I can use for
deleting a few worthless messages of members who do NOT distinct as clear as
I do ;-)
