With respect to contrary opinions:
    I prefer that the default response scheme be to respond to the whole
group.  It has not been burdensome to delete those messages not having
lasting value.  Furthermore, occasionally a gold nugget is contained in an
otherwise simple response, and those nuggets would tend to be lost with a
reversal of the default scheme.

    As others have said:  If one wishes to respond to only one person, the
means to do so are simple to implement.
