[1000mp] Strange behavior with my VRF/MEM CH Control

Many MP and Mk.V owners have reported erratic operation of the optical
encoders on the radios. On my MP, both the Clarifier and the MEM/VFO CH
encoders exhibit this behavior; the Clarifier acted up first, the MEM/VFO CH
control more recently. Both are HIGHLY ANNOYING.

That both function erratically and that many report this problem strongly
suggests that the encoders themselves are defective in the long run. If so,
the +5V supply and the solder connections are not likely to be the culprits.

YMMV.

Bob:

You'll need to get inside to the front panel. THe VRF/Mem Channel knob is a
rotary encoder. It is the ENC-A-Unit shown on the bottom right of the
schematic sheet that shows the overall block diagram.

Check solder connections, check the +5V supply to the board and encoder, and
then with a scope, note the activity on the mem 1 and mem 2 lines. It may
be that the encoder itself is bad, not the switch.

Good luck,

Steve, K0SF
