Thanks to W5JAY, KB9GKC, W2AJI and W2NRA for the advice. I tried the method
that Mike,W2AJI, recommended (see below) and it worked. It did work better
to remove all the insulation from the wires. A thin tinning was necessary.
Holding the wire into the proper location, I touched the soldering iron to
the wire close to the hole. It took just about 5 seconds for the heat to
penetrate the soldier and allow the wire to go into the hole. The cable was
long enough so that I did not need to clip a keeper to get more length. The
Mark-5 is back together and seems to be working ok in CW and RTTY. Hope this
mod helps me in the RTTY contests.
