I have not done this mod on the Mark V (I have the old MP)  but I  understand 
how to do this.  Heat the pad on the board with the soldering  iron until 
solder flows freely, then thrust the tinned wire through the hole in  the pad, 
when done quickly the tinned wire does not melt until the wire is  through the 
hole.  If you can't see the hole in the pad then remove some of  the solder 
from the pad until you can see a divot.  After the wire is  through the hole you 
can add a dab of solder to the pad to make it more  robust.
