key/unkey are just words used to mean make and break on a circuit.  
they don't have to be used only for cw but as verbs in ham radio are 
normally confined to switching between tx and rx.   noun normally means 
cw key.  it is feasible for a phone rig to tx a spike on make and/or 
break of the mic switch line.   i have not heard of this with the yaesu 
rigs but it is a problem that comes up with ten tec omni 6s.   like 
someone else said, i'd get a second opinion before i start going in and 
turning screws in the MP.    in the omni 6 the "click" which is really 
a spike is caused by the bal. mod. not settling in and nulling the cxr 
fast enough.
