You could go really "belt and spenders" and still use the opto-isolator
switching a low curent relay. Since it for the PTT circuit it's not
likely you wear it out soon (most have lifetimes of 100K cycles or
more). That way you still have isolation from the computer.The only real
down side is that now you will need a small power supply to power the
relay and output transistor. But you could get away with a small "wall
wart". Just something to think about.

The Opt likely doesn't have enough current sinking capacity.

I had to go to a transistor to switch the PTT Line.

The 2N2222 should work fine.
