You're a contester so, the INRAD 70MHz/3.5KHz roofing filter it's a MUST. It
costs $165, but it worth every cent. See http://www.qth.com/inrad/ . In
addition, any optional narrower/broader filter you'll buy from INRAD, will
be better than original Yaesu filters. Go to the INRAD's FT1000MP filters
page , take a look to the many choices and see the graphs.

Subject: [1000mp] New Radio
Gang,
In the first 5 minutes of my operation in the ARRL CW contest my trusty old
TS-950S died. Yesterday I took delivery of a new Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark-V
Field. I will probably get the 950 fixed and sell it.
Big Change. I do check into the occasional phone net, but I spend most of
my
operating chasing DX. Mostly on CW but some phone also. I will be getting
into the ARRL SSB contest this weekend.
This radio has a lot more configuration options then the 950. I currently
have a 500HZ collins mechcanical CW filter on the main vfo. Other then that
the radio is just as it came. I am open to, and welcome, any and all
configuration, option, accessory, and filter suggestons, and advice.
Thanks,
Steve NG0G
