[1000mp] Need help trouble shooting a 1000MP

I recently bought a 1000mp and immediately installed the Inrad roofing 
filter and some filters (before I tested the radio - dumb) 

I power up the radio and the main frequency display displays 7285 and blinks
off and on. The audio is a slight hiss. When I turn the main knob I hear a
scratchy sound from the speaker. If I move the unit I hear microphonics. I
set the menu items without a problem. Remember this is my first MP so could
it be a set up issue?

I checked the reference osc - good
I checked the 9V reg - good
By passed the roofing filter - did not help

Any other recommendations?
