One irrelevant point to my rig working fine is that I run it on the internal
supply on a 220V line (simply because I'm running out of 110 lines).

I have not noticed it on mine, but my routine for getting ready to
operate my station may be a factor. I usually turn on all the power
supplies first, then go around turning on computer monitors, other
gear, and adjusting whatever matching network i'm going to use, then I
turn on my mk v. maybe having the p.s. on for a few minutes before
turning on the rig makes a difference? display seems to come on right
away. but mine is a little over 2 years old. by the way, if the p.s.
fails and can't be repaired, (and I don't know what's involved in
getting a yaesu replacement or what it costs) separate 13.8 and 28 v.
supplies can be purchased from Astron. I can't remember if they are
switching or linear but I think this is a less expensive option. of
course you will have two p.s. to turn on but that's a minor
inconvenience I could live with.
