[1000mp] cw audio loud

I am not speaking of the cw sidetone control on the back of the Mark V.
When operating cw in the wee hours of the morning the transmit audio is loud 
even when using headphones and very annoying. Even turning the rigs
af gain control down will not lower this. I do not see anywhere in the
menu where this can be adjusted. Anyone have any idea how to get this to
just a whisper?
