Dear Yuri,
As a frequent traveler, sometimes hauling many pieces of video
broadcast gear, protecting delicate electronics has been a
part of my career for some years.
While heavily-padded carrying cases such as Porta-Brace bags
are deemed the absolute best for big cameras, rack-mount equipment
such as audio recorders and power supplies lend themselves better to
a hard-shell case simply because of the sharp angles on the corners
of the equipment.
In this situation a plastic case resembling a suitcase is the best
choice.
The radio should be surrounded by very resilient foam on all surfaces,
with a very soft inner surface for the radio front panel.
The radio should fit with the back panel facing the bottom of the case
when stood
on its legs. A rolling suitcase might be the best. If you need to push
the top down
slightly to get the case closed you know you have enough resilient
material.
The double box is also a good idea, perhaps the very best. My question to
you is if you are changing airplane carriers, why not check the box in as
luggage
with it suitably taped with strapping tape?
If you bring any sort of odd box or odd electronics on the airplane you
will
encounter security checks that will detain you until the security
officers determine
what the device is, exactly. Your operator's manual should be available
right with the equipment when it is inspected. Please take your Amateur
License to
identify yourself as a Qualified Person to have transmitting equipment in
your possession.
In light of all the obstacles you face, a direct, insured air shipment by
an
international carrier such as FedEx might be your best choice. The radio
is
a big article and will attract more attention than a duly-registered
firearm
because it has not been classified as something usual to air travel.
Good luck traveling!
