[1000mp] one last request for suggestions

Before I ship it off to Yaesu never never land.

It's been acting flaky.
It quits receiving on vfo A
It's like the squelch was active, but it isn't that
All knobs, normal operation, it will just start to go in/out and then goes 
out.
VFO B can receive normally (at least now)
I'm listening to a strong 40 meter cw on vfo b but hear absolutely nothing 
on vfo a.

I can't transmit on either vfo, if cw, rig goes into transmit mode, I hear 
no sidetone and no power output although the ptt does switch into transmit 
mode.

This happens in any filter position
any mode
any band

If I turn vfo a af gain all the way up, I hear just soft background noise 
from speakers or headphones, on either left or right headphone.

Occasionally hear a pop, like radio is coming back to life.
As if some component was just on the edge of adjustment.

As I right this, it's out, the longest down time I've experienced
Most were a second up to 10 seconds.
This time it's been a half hour so far, with two moments when it started to 
come back to life.

because I don't hear a cw sidetone, and no receive on vfo a, can anyone make 
a suggestion of where to hit with the hammer before sending off for repairs.
I'm pulling the rig out of use and will open to reseat all boards AGAIN.
(last week I did that and also made sure all fans, sinks were clean which I 
do quite frequently)

And just this second, vfo A popped back to life as I was preparing to 
disconnect all cables and attempt to reseat boards again.


I don't have a scope or any other test equipment other than a DVM.
