Dear Jon,
The FT1000MP Mark V field I own is just over two years according to the production date.
As I mentioned the Inrad roofing filter modification may contribute slightly in the fact that the clicks (blobs) are more noticeable and that you may hear it better from one to the other radio.
To be honest I never heard it on my TS850 by Kenwood, but we can not compare apple and pears
