Sounds like the same optoencoder problem that plagues the RIT knob.

Subject: [1000mp] VRF/MEM CH Control Knob

Well here I go again with my lemon Mark V. Just got the receive restored by
Yaesu and now I am noticing that when I use the VRF/MEM CH control to select
memory channel or adjust the VRF, memu setting or just selecting channels
that the displayed information jumps around. Example, if I am selecting a
memory channel and I start at 1-30 and I am going down when I get to say
1-23 it will reset or jump back to 1-28 or 1-30. I never noticed this
before. Has anyone experienced this problem? Surely this is not normal.
