Greetings Joe and All,
Why not post replies to the list, it certainly is an interesting question.
 I also own an old original MP and have thought of a similair course of
action. But my feeling is that if your radio is working well, trading up to
a used, newer model is risky--you might inherit a problem child. Better
route  is to invest in the roofing filter,  keyclick mod etc. and hang on to
a know product. Besides the improvement of the MK V over the MP is
debateable. IMHO.
