i run my mic and proc pots at the same spot right at about 10 o'clock.  
  the best thing you can do is borrow a separate rx, preferably another 
ham rig or good ssb swl rx, that you can use to listen with (tx on a 
dummy of course) so you don't have to rely on another ham's reports and 
patience.  I really like to hear my problems with my own ears.    hey, 
it's a justification for buying another toy.  can't have too many rigs 
right?
