The back socket only accepts audio when you are in the "Packet mode" and 
disconnects the mic input in the Packet mode also.

Are you feeding the audio into the socket or the mic?  Mic is muted 
during packet mode which you can use for AFSK digital modes.

Use USB or LSB if you are using the mic input.  Do you hear anything in 
the monitor mode?
