I bought a device from a local computer store. It's called a Gold X adapter
but it is no doubt sold in computer stores under a variety of names. It cost
about $US 40. It plugs into a USB port on my computer and produces a serial
port (COM 7) which I can connect to my FT1000 MkV Field to effect CAT. The
device came with a small piece of software and works fine on my 400 MHz Dell
running Windows 98SE.
The regular serial port on my computer (COM 1) is tied up interfacing with
my Rigblaster plus.
