Tod,
I think I saw what you are describing on the ribbon connectors on the IF
board. However either there isn't such a thing on the pariticular connector
on my RF board or it has become "separated" from the body of the connector
and vanished.
Is this "upper" part an integral part of the connector or is it "a loose
piece" that might have come off with the ribbon cable and slipped off the
end of the cable ?
Does this "top" act to "push" the ribbon cable into the connector and clamp
it in place, or does it somehow cause the contacts in the body of the
connector to "clamp" around the ribbon cable ends ? In other words, if I
push the cable into the connector and then use another means (e.g. a drop of
super glue on each side of the cable) to hold it in place will it still make
adequte electrical contact. ?
THANKS ....
Joe, W5ASP

Joe:
There is a small 'top' to the connector. You should lift it up with your
fingernail at each end. You will see that it moves up to where it is about
1/16" up from the main body of the connector. Once that is done insert the
flat cable all the way to the bottom of the connector. Then press down on
the 'top' to "lock" the cable into position.
It is rather hard to see the small, thin cable lock at the top of the
connector.
