[1000mp] Output Power Mark V

Not likely anything is wrong with the Mk V. Output power for AM is rated at
only 50 watts. Make sure you don't have the class A button depressed. Can
you connect a key to the rig and check the output on cw? I find that CW
gives me a reasonable true reading. SSB can only be measured as peak to
peak which is very difficult to see a wattmeter. The MK V is a very
sophisticated radio with many menu control options. Make sure you haven't
changed the power setting on the rig. You may even have a bad cable to the
dummy load or even a bad dummy load. If all else fails haul it back to HRO
and have them connect to their system and see how it performs. My guess is
that it will work fine. You definitely made the choice with your purchase.
You're going to love this baby over the FT-101ZD. I've owned mine for a
couple of years and still find things it can do I never thought possible.
You should know I also own a Kenwood TS-950SDX and the Icom 756 PRO III.
When it comes to the big DX I always switch to the Mk V.

Subject: [1000mp] Output Power Mark V
Just purchased a new 1000MP Mark V and I am concerned about what I am seeing
on the output power. Obviously the main reason I selected the Mark V over
the field was output power. I know that output power can be affected by
several things, but when using a dummy load most, if not all of those
things, should be eliminated. Here is my situation with the RF power
control all the way to the right the watt meter bar on the radio shows the
200 watt output, but the power meter that is built in with the dummy load
only shows a carrier output on AM of 100 watts. On SSB with the mic gain
fully opened the power on the built in meter doesn't even break 50 watts
with modulation. This is true throughout the bands, but of course with a 1:1
SWR with a dummy load it should be the same throughout the bands. Can
someone give me some advices on my concern. I only have a few days left
under HRO's defect exchange policy and I don't want to get stick with a
power lemon. My new Mark 5, power wise isn't any better than my old
FT-101ZD.
Thanks
