[1000mp] Output Power Mark V

Hello Bob:
You have to check all of your settings on SSB first. Depending on your
microphone, you need to see that the ALC is reaching all the way to the top
of the ALC scale while modulating. The proper PEP output on the meter while
running SSB is 200 watts.
There are many settings on the Mark V which will effect the output. Check
that the default settings are all in place, and that the ALC is well up
there, and also use the processor as well. If your microphone is well
suited to the Mark V impedance wise, initial mic gain and processor gain
settings of about 10 to 11 o'clock should work well.
I have found my internal wattmeter in the Mark V to be very accurate.
Perhaps you have a bad cable there to the dummy load. What does the Mark V
show on the internal SWR meter?
If the SWR is above 1.5 to 1, the Mark V will start to roll back the power
output. Check the SWR in CW while sending a series of high speed dits. You
can not rely on the SWR readings while operating in SSB.
If your FT 101 shows only delivering 50 watts, something is wrong with your
metering set up, as that radio should deliver 100 watts PEP.
If your Mark V is working into a 1:1 match, and the ALC is to the top of the
ALC scale, and the default settings are in place, you should see 200 watts
PEP on SSB. If not, send it back.
73 and Happy DXing,

Subject: [1000mp] Output Power Mark V
Just purchased a new 1000MP Mark V and I am concerned about what I am seeing
on the output power. Obviously the main reason I selected the Mark V over
the field was output power. I know that output power can be affected by
several things, but when using a dummy load most, if not all of those
things, should be eliminated. Here is my situation with the RF power
control all the way to the right the watt meter bar on the radio shows the
200 watt output, but the power meter that is built in with the dummy load
only shows a carrier output on AM of 100 watts. On SSB with the mic gain
fully opened the power on the built in meter doesnt even break 50 watts
with modulation. This is true throughout the bands, but of course with a 1:1
SWR with a dummy load it should be the same throughout the bands. Can
someone give me some advices on my concern. I only have a few days left
under HROs defect exchange policy and I dont want to get stick with a
power lemon. My new Mark 5, power wise isnt any better than my old
FT-101ZD.
Thanks
