This makes sense, because the tuner might not be tuned to the beam or
ther vertical. The tuner needs to be tuned to each individual antenna.
The SWR meter is accurate enough to let you know when you have the
lowest SWR, beyond this, I'm not sure.

You probably don't need the external fan. It's normal for the fan to
come on occasionally- sometimes in RX. Unless you're going to use 100%
duty cycle on AM/FM/RTTY, I wouldn't worry about it.
