[1000mp] beginner's problem

  No that won't do it.  I was thinking of another rig, I've had so  
darned many.

is this a new or used rig?  What lights are lit up on your front  
panel. Does it transmit in CW? Do you have anything hooked up to the  
radio, packet gizmo, soundcard ect?

I'm grooping for a solution without taking the covers off.  If it's a  
new rig why not call the dealer.  If it's a used rig then I guess you  
are on your own unless you got it from a dealer, they have somewhat  
of a warranty period, most anyway.
