David, 

DX4Win is telling you that the EPROM in your FT-1000 is too old. 

To confirm this, do the "Las Vegas" diagnostic test - paragraph 
3 or the "Power-Up Selections" on page 17 of the manual.  If
the Las Vegas test ends with anything other than "Yaesu 6.00" 
you will need to upgrade the EPROM.  

The last time I heard, the EPROM was still available from Yaesu 
(Yaesu, USA in California).  It is in a socket and can be changed 
by a reasonably competent user (requires opening the case, folding 
down the front panel, and removing one shield).  

BTW, version 6.0 of the EPROM represented a major change ... it 
added the "short update" responses and stopped muting receive 
audio during a CAT response.
