[1000mp] roofing filter and menu 9.1

Jim of course is right, and has experienced the same results that many
others have had. The Inrad instructions were not correct for my radio, and
for many other radios which were all reported to have experienced an
impressive gain in signal with the installation of the two stage low noise
amplifier, which is part of the roofing filter mod. The stated few DB gain
in the first IF stage is simply much more, perhaps as much as 8 DB!

The roofing filter mod appears to do everything that the earlier IF mod did
for the Mark V, plus restrict the bandpass in the first IF to 4 KHZ.

I can not explain why Inrad has stated their installation instructions as
they have, except perhaps there has been some change in the design since the
first filters with their associated amplifiers were delivered.

Whatever the reason, there certainly is no need for both mods, or switching
between the two mods, at least in my radio. The new roofing filter mod does
it all.

73 and Happy DXing,

Mike
