The tune mode give you more choices  Your receiver is more selective  If 
there is a strong signal a few kHzs away it is not being amplified to 
the same rate as the signal you are listening to.  And if there is an 
interfering signal you can de-tune in the opposite direction to lower 
that signal more.  Also on a strong signal and a noisy band you can 
detune that signal for more comfortable copy.
