No need to apologize, Doug - it's the "Internet herd instinct".

Whenever someone on a mailing list or newsgroup happens to mention a 
website, that site immediately sees a huge spike in traffic. It happens 
within moments of the message being posted, and I do mean HUGE! Traffic 
then tails back to normal over the next 24 hours.

You are providing us with a very valuable service at your own expense, 
Doug. We don't expect you also to pay for over-capacity to handle those 
spikes - not when we have the solution in our own hands.

So don't be part of the "herd", folks. If downloading seems to be slow, 
just think how many other people may be clicking that very same link, at 
that very same moment. Save the link, and call back later.
