In regards to the spotting function IMHO a CW op will develope a comfortable 
tone to listen to which may or may not be exactly on the listened station.

When I feel frequency accuracy is important or to my advantage I have my 
pitch tone set to 750hz. Once I match the tones I feel I'm real close.

On the other hand what's the confort tone for the station your working 
anyway?

BTW, I hardly ever use it. Now on to other important matters.
