[1000mp] Yaesu parts policies stink

You were very unlucky. All First Class mail is handled by machines and a
pilot lamp in an envelope or a key or change usually gets crushed or broken
when it goes around the wheels in the mail processing machine. I have heard
a lot of envelopes explode and the change, pens, and/or keys hit the floor
during a nightly USPS run. Usually when mail is damaged, you still get the
mail (or what is left of it) in a clear plastic envelope a little later.
>From Thanksgiving through Christmas, USPS handles a lot of holiday mail and
may not be as prompt in forwarding first class damaged mail.
If Yaesu ships it in a box or large mailing envelope, it is handled by
different machines and usually arrives ok via USPS. I thought the only
packages you could put a tracking number on were the Priority Mail Envelopes
or at least those that cost considerably more than 50 cents to mail. If you
are going to insure USPS shipments, then UPS is probably less expensive. I
have good luck with both USPS and UPS and am thankful for both of them since
I live on a rural route about 7 miles from the nearest small town.

A word of warning - at the end of November I bought a pilot lamp for a piece
of Yaesu gear. It cost $2.15. They offered me the choice of UPS for "about
$5" or USPS for 50 cents, but they said they would not cover loss or damage
with USPS. "How likely is that?", I thought, as I elected to save the
$4.50.
