You are lucky---you did not break anything.

The first time I encountered that situation was with a TS430S, and I broke
the panel-mounted female connector when I tried to insert the plug. Not only
was it a PITA to get the replacement part, but the Kenwood had an
arrangement wherein the shell of the plug pushed against a small,
spring-loaded slide switch mounted to the panel receptacle, which opened the
RX signal line and allowed use of a separate RX antenna. It was a project to
rebuild that mess, especially within limited confines.

Needless to say, I have been quite vigilant about 8-pin DIN's ever since!

Well, I breaded the x2 npn switching circuit from K6XX, and it worked well.
Then I picked up an 8 pin DIN connector, and, with great attention to
detail, built the circuit within the confines of the connector housing. I
even potted it. It was beautiful. And. it bench tested.

Anyone want to guess? That damn 8 pin DIN is not standard. My cable would
not plug into the FT.

I had to laugh. I now remember reading about that connector on this list
many months ago. And , so it goes....
