Hi Rod.
Also have a vintage MP circa 1997.
Likewise the rig has performed well over the years, but a similar problem
occurred a few weeks ago.
Was on 17m and the audio was fine getting ususal good reports (run an MD100
mic)
Went onto 20 and it sounded really bad.
Put it on a scope and it didn't look good.
Different bands produced different results - some were better than others.
Tried the usual stuff like unpluging all accessories etc and then run direct
to a dummy load but to no avail.Set it up using another MD100 mic and also
no change. Also had another PSU - again made no difference.
For info I also have RF getting into the speaker which the rig has suffered
from for a while and currently there seems no fix for that, even tho I have
ferrites scattered all over the place! That got so bad that I had to install a
small relay in the extension speaker to cut the feed off during tx as it was
very annoying (but doing that I lost the sidetone and moni functions - not
ideal!!)
What I didn't suffer from was the power drop out which you experienced.
In the interim the rig has been to 2 uk dealers and they have been unable to
fix it.
Anyhow, the rig has now gone back to Yaesu UK and am waiting for the outcome.
Will keep the forum updated on progress.
Mabe its now getting over the hill as they say and time for a change?
