I use Bob K6XX's keying amplifier. It uses the signal from Pin 2 of the Band 
Data socket. The circuit is the two transistors on the top of the circuit 
diagram at his page http://www.k6xx.com/radio/mpbandbx.html
It's simple, safe and reliable.
