Hi Hans

I am not a CW or SSB contester and I like general SSB and some CW operating.
However, I am pleased that I have a MkV when I chase rare SSB expeditions
and have to fight a crowded band or strong adjacent signals.

* Are your two SSB filter recommendations best for my operating habits?
* Would I benefit from the roofing filter?
* Is the roofing filter better than the front-end mod?
* Is the roofing filter a good place to start if I have not done any
   modifications or filters yet?

Yes/No answers will be fine.

Thank you for always taking time to answer the questions on the list.

Regards
Deon ZS1ZL

Hello Doron,

I have the 1000D and the Field. Both with Inrad filters.

INRAD filters are g-r-e-a-t!

Suggestions for CW:

2800 Hz
2100 Hz
1000 Hz
400 Hz

For SSB:

2800 Hz
1800 Hz

I exchanged the three standard Yaesu filters (also the two who are soldered)
by Inrad filters. To exchange the two soldered 8.2 MHz IF-filters needs some
experience...

The menu to choose the filters of the Field is quite simple:

- Press FAST and ENT together
- With VRF/MEM CH you go to menu 5-1
- You will see: oFF 8.2-2.0
- Turn Main VFO-A to the right untill you see that 'oFF' changes to 'on'
- do the same with menu 5-3, 5-5, 5-6, 5-7 or 5-8

Good luck!
