This  magic box probably contains just two resistors, 22k + 3.3k in 
series, and a switch.

All the Remote functions are selected by switching a particular value of 
resistance to ground (details on the VA3CR site). 25.3k will kick any 
FT-1000 into tuneup mode at the power level selected by menu 4-3.

With the 100W rigs you can select tuneup at either 10, 50 or 100W... 
don't know what the menu options are for the 200W rigs.
