Right you are Art.  Ok I will modify my explanation:
If you don't NEED QSK you can switch to the VOX mode.  This will have the 
benefit of not exercising your TR relay in an amplifier if you use one, AND 
ALSO if you are not using an amplifier you can turn off the relay that 
drives the amp.  When you do you will notice the rig is quieter since that 
little relay is not following along with your keying. On my old MP there is 
a switch on the back which disables it.  My MP is the best QSK rig I have 
ever owned but I have never had a Ten Tec.
