[1000mp] Loss of signal strength

Hi

I have a 10 week old FT1000MP field with all the filters which until 
recently  has been an excellent performer.  However it has now developed 
the following symptoms:

When I switch to  the  VRF it  works ok but when i switch back there is 
only a very low signal heard.  Comparison with another receiver in the 
shack shows that any real signal sensitivity has now been lossed.  If I 
switch the VRF back into circuit the sensitivity returns.  This 
condition remains until I switch off the set and switch it back on; then 
the sensitivity is ok until I again use the VRF and then after the use 
of the VRF I find I have lost sensitivity again.

Before I return it under warranty any suggestions?
